|
|
I think Entwine has a chance to make it in America. I would not have
said this before Dieversity, even though the song "Nothing Left to
Say" would have appealed to the Lifehouse/ The Calling music crowd,
their music was simply too foreign for American taste. America's music
scene is growing extremely stale currently. Rap is the number one form
of music in the country among listeners age 30 and under. The rock
scene has gone underground, but the scene itself is in shambles. Bad
song writing, talentless '3-chord' bands, it is simply a nightmare.
Probably the best bands rightnow are Nickelback and Linkin Park, and
they are far from what i call great. Nickelback is simply a rehash of early
to mid 90's rock alternative/grunge and Linkin Park, while having
potential, incorporates rap into their musical style, which is a SEVERE no-
no. Right now the American rock scene is holding its breath, waiting
anxiously for next trend in rock. This new decade has not yet produced a
signature musical style, like the 80's and 90's had. There are two
possibilities that could potentially become the next trend. One, is a return
to the darker side of rock. The other is the punk revolution that could
become the definitive sound for the first decade of the new millenium.
Punk bands such as New Found Glory and Switchfoot are becomingly
highly popular, and recieve regular video rotation on Fuse Tv. THIS
MUST BE STOPPED. There is a chance that this draconian alternate future
could be prevented. Evanescence has showed alot of promise. They
have become wildly popular, for they presented something original to the
American audiences, combining Linkin Park-esque chunky riffs with a
wonderfully gothic female voice. Of course anyone with knowledge of the
European rock scene would know that this form of music is not original at
all, for Lacuna Coil and The Gathering have been doing it for years.
Despite Evanescence's popularity, no one has tried to duplicate their
sound in America, there are no clone bands or imitators. If another band
In this dark rock genre comes out, this could possibly result in the
creation of a new genre, and Evanescence would be the founders of that
genre in America, instead of just being some fluke in the musical system.
Because of Evanescence's popularity, HIM has been played on Fuse Tv,
but has not achieved radio play or mass popularity. If Entwine got radio
play in the US, the entire rock climate could change. Entwine has what it
takes, all that is needed is exposure. Long live dark rock! Here's hoping
for the future...

| i actually wouldn't like that, cos if someone is famous in america, it's famous everywhere, an i don't want entwine to be too famous. if everybody listen to it, it kinda doesn't feel my own thing anymore. an then they won't tour here so much. now the situation is great, they do really a lot gigs here an also they tour sometimes europe. they're enough famous now, i think. europe is enough |

I've got the same opinion like Tiina.
It's really hard right now, for example seeing Nightwish on our Teenie-Music channels, at 'top of the pops' etc.
It doesn't change their music but a little loss of fascination for the band is there, of course.
And I wouldn't like seeing Entwine regarded as the 'new HIM' _________________ ~ carry your cross and I'll carry mine ~ |

i totally agree with you guys...although i feel a little guilty for it! i'd love for entwine to get great exposure, bring in the bucks, but once something gets really popular and everyone and their dog has the albums...it does kind of lose some appeal. i enjoyed evanescence until it was absolutely everywhere. it gets on your nerves when the radio plays something over and over and over again. and then of course there are the people who used to make fun of you for dressing 'gothy', now sporting their own wannabe goth look so they can be like amy lee.
i'm totally fed up with the american music scene, and i'm hoping to take off to germany or finland for my masters degree next year, so i'd rather entwine be popular in europe instead of north america, just so that i can finally see them! _________________ mmm...cruelty |

| I wish them the best and I'm also doing my best to promote them as much as possible. Of course I wouldn't like it when there were some teenies and situations with those I had at some of the last HIM gigs I saw.. still, it would make me veryvery happy to see them manage it. The only thing which would make me sad would be if the success would change their personalities in a negative kind of way. But I'm actually sure that that wouldn't happen. |

Do not misjudge what I say, I am not in support of Entwine selling out,
though many would argue their Dieversity album is a blatant attempt to
become Americanized. I read an interview with one of the Entwine
guitarists that they made a consious effort to capture the sound and
energy of Linkin Park, because they think they are an excellent band.
Entwine also pointed out that they were willing to play any festival, any
venue, which implies they are extremely ambitious, and desire to obtain
stardom. based on their new found ambition and desire to emulate the
energy of LInkin Park, the largest armerican rock band at the moment,
the only logical comclusion is that they should try to reach commercial
success in America. America is the musical mecca of the world (even
though it does not deserve the title, the music is horrid here), and making
it big in this god forsaken, rap infested country is required for musical
world domination.

Oh I type directly into the box, but I purposely double-spaced the lines to allow easier reading. Harder to read alot of lines when they are typed like this. At least it is for me. |

Isn't it the wish of the most bands to manage it to live with the money they earn with making music..?
I'm a hobby photographer and I'm doing it mostly for fun but then it would be more than great to make a living out of it.

Yeah, maybe for the hiphoppers and the gangstas but barely for metal and hardly for rock. Imo the most really good bands are from Europe.
I think it's normal (for EVERY band) that their music is influenced by the bands they like and they're listening to. If you like death metal then your music will most probably be fast and powerfull. If you prefer Pink Floyd, then it'll rather be atmospherical. That's quite normal I think. That still doesn't have to mean that they're copying them. |

yes, that's true - there aren't many famous metal bands from America, there's a much bigger scene here in Europe - luckily. _________________ ~ carry your cross and I'll carry mine ~ |

| Certainly it is normal for a band to seek fame. I was not harrassing Entwine when I said they were trying to emulate the energy of Linkin Park's sound. You are absolutely right, America's rock scene (there is no metal scene, Iced Earth is a fluke!) is pathetic. If yout hink about it, most of the bands were looked upon as great in America from the earlier days of rock were all British (The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, AC/DC, Def Leppard) And if you consider the 80's new wave fad, most of the major new wave bands were British also. Probably the biggest contribution to rock america has ever produced would probably be Metallica. But I would argue that Europe has always been the trend setters in rock music. I said America is the musical mecca because America arugably has the largest music industry money wise, the rappers and pop stars here are filthy rich, and that America is so egocentric that they think they are the center of the whole world for absolutely any and everything. They think they are the mecca. If they only knew... lol |

| i'm not so good at english, cos i'm quite young but did you ( i mean winteroustimbers) say that guys of entwine think that Linkin Park is an excellent band? they really do? an earlier you said that evanescence has proved that american music scene would change to more gothic way or something like that, if i got you right. but i think that there's nothing same in evanescence an Entwine, evanescence is kinda popmetal if i can say that. but i still like them, they're just too famous an that's not good thing. i think it's nice that I can say that some band is my fav band an none else doesn't even know the band. i have never met anywhere else than in net anyone who even knows entwine. but all people i know just don't know anything about music, but i don't either. |

I suppose they might be kind of "gate opener" for gothic metal. Lacuna Coil are getting famous in the States now as well for example.
It's like with metal. You usually don't start to listen to the extreme kind of metal just like that. The most start with "easier" stuff like Metallice, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest... or nowadays I suppose with Linkin' Park, Limp Bizkit, Papa Roach.. suppose you need smaller steps to get into it. A few years ago the most death/trash bands were just pure noise for me because I didn't understand that music. Nowadays there are a few bands which make some kind of brutal music and whom I really like. |
